Baseball FAQs

Where are practices held?

Baseball practices are held at Woodsboro Park just off Rt. 550. Basketball practices - we try to keep them within a 20-minute drive from the Woodsboro area. Since we are using multiple indoor facilities, sometimes the location varies.

Where are games played? Will we have to travel to play?

The is program/sport specific. Baseball home games are played at Woodsboro Park. Away games are throughout Frederick County and sometimes in Carroll County. Basketball home games are usually at the Walkersville Rec Center located at Walkersville Elementary School. Away games are mostly throughout Frederick County, sometimes in Carroll County. Note that Frederick County is geographically the largest county in Maryland and some teams that play within the Leagues we participate in are in adjacent counties (Carroll, and sometimes Washington or northern Montgomery Counties).

How long is the season? When does the season start and end?

Each program has its own length. The basic timeline is listed on our registration pages. Fall Baseball - practices begin in August, games begin in late August. The season ends the end of October. Spring Baseball - practices begin in March, games begin in early April. The season ends the middle of June. Basketball practices begin in November, games begin in January. The season ends early to mid March. However, holidays, weather, and bye weeks can alter the season length.

When are practices?  How many times per week do teams practice?

Generally, practices are held in the evenings during the week.  Coaches will determine the practice times and days.

For younger players, there is typically one practice each week.

When will practice begin and when do games start?

For the U9 and above age groups, practices generally begin about two weeks before the first game of the season and are scheduled twice per week. Your team’s coach will set the practice times and days and determine when to start the practices. The first game of the fall season is just after labor day and the first game of the spring season is at the very end of March or beginning of April.

When are the games scheduled?

Games are sport (and sometimes season) specific. General game information is contained within the description of each sport. However, the Basketball games are on Saturdays and Sundays. Baseball games are on Saturdays, and older age groups within baseball have some games one evening per week. These guidelines can change when makeup games, or playoffs occur.

When will schedules be posted?

Schedules will be given to the coaches soon after they are finalized at the league level. They will be shared with parents as soon as possible after that either by handing out paper copies, posting them online, or both.

Will we need a new uniform?

Full WNMRC uniforms are required for U9 and above. If you have a uniform that is in good condition, you may use it. Otherwise, you may purchase one when you register. You may also purchase just the pieces that you need to complete a partial uniform. For younger players, a jersey and socks are needed at a minimum but you may also purchase an entire uniform if you wish. All players will also need shin guards.

Do games or practices ever get cancelled due to bad weather?

Yes. Though we make every effort to hold practices and games as scheduled, sometimes we must cancel sessions due to weather or field conditions. Cancellations will be communicated to the effected team(s) as soon as possible.
